Movie Review - You Were Never Really Here

It's been a productive week, I've watched several movie lately, but this one really caught me. Based on the book with the same the title written by Jonathan Ames, this a struggle of an adult.

The main actor is Joaquin Phoenix, while he played perfectly in this role as Joe, an ex soldier who decided to become a hitman. The movie started with a man in his closet under a plastic bag, after a while he started to count and old memories keep flashing back. Joe is a child who experience abused childhood and that creates a man that suffers a mental sickness.

He lives only with her mother, who might reach almost 80 if I'm not mistaken. She looks so skinny and fragile, Joe takes care of her mother really well. He takes her to bed, he cleaned the messy bathroom after her mother take a bath, he is an obedient child. There is not even a single point that Joe had a personal life other than his career as a hitman.

One day a big task coming, it comes from a famous politician whose daughter has been kidnapped and caught in the human trafficking. Joe nailed the job, he had the girl in his arms and secure her to the meeting point. Little did he know, the kidnapper is the governor. This is where the twist played, and everything just become chaotic. Joe was brutally injured, he got hit in the face, it was hard to believe that he could made it.

If you're kind of scared with blood bath, i remind you not to watch the movie. There's something I learn from this movie, even the worst man you could think of, in this case it's a hitman, they all have conscience. Joe have pictured thousands of times to killed himself, take the easy way and leave, but he simply doesn't take it.

As an awkward man we usually see Joaquin Phoenix, this is just the perfect role for him, though I still love him in Her. Not much conversation, he only know his fist. He doesn't plan the shooting or any kind of blue print that we see much in the mercenaries movies, he just roll and go with his hammer. Yes, he killed with his hammer.

Go watch the movie, and tell me how it affects you. For me this movie got 3,5/5 stars!
